Panic: a Plea

I am crashing
From crisis to crisis
My mind is splitting the atom
A disaster bigger than Hiroshima
Is stacking up
And you do not see
You are blind to the catastrophe
That is gathering its terrible momentum
I am on the road
To an incident more terrible
Than the scorching pain of cancer
More terrifying
Than the everyday oblivion of death
I am driven
Driven by foreboding
I am propelled
To beg for succour
To beseech officials
To derail the locomotive
Which hurtles towards
An Armageddon of the soul
Their honeyed words
And pompous, fearful platitudes
Diverting me with casual indifference
Towards the grave’s knowing calm
